Delhi Township Rapid Run Road
Demolition of Property Project
Posted: 10-20-2011
Phase 1 of the property demolition of four homes along
the south side of Rapid Run is underway!
The demolition is part of a cooperative mitigation effort between Delhi Township and the Hamilton County Metropolitan Sewer District. A total of twenty-two properties along Rapid Run Road, as being identified as properties affected by chronic basement flooding, sit directly over a combination storm sewer that was modified during development of the area and all drainage is funneled directly to the bottom and center of the v-shaped valley. Residents who live within this flood plain have been subject to damage to their homes over the years due to chronic basement flooding. After a hard rainfall, floodwater would rapidly fill up the basements and sewer backups would compound cleanup efforts.
Delhi Township in cooperation with the Metropolitan Sewer District applied for and received two FEMA state-local grants in order to implement a mitigation program that would reduce the loss of property due to natural disasters. In 2010, several options were considered and the decision was made to acquire the properties on a voluntary basis, demolish the structures and transform the land into green space free from future development.
Phase 1 of the project involving property acquisitions of the first nine homes is currently underway! Four of the homes have been acquired and are currently being demolished. Phase 2 of the project involving property acquisitions of the remaining thirteen homes is scheduled to take place before the end of October. The entire project involving Phase 1 and Phase 2 property acquisition, demolition and property clean up will take approximately one year to complete.
